It is essential that Example District addresses the current housing crisis recognised within our community. With a local housing need of 227 dwellings annually, we cannot afford to wait any longer for adequate solutions. The proposal looks to provide a range of housing types suitable for families, older individuals, and newcomers alike, ensuring that our district remains accessible to all. Additionally, it is vital that we take note of the specific needs of Gypsy and Traveller communities, who are often overlooked. By supporting this initiative, we can foster a more inclusive environment that reflects the diversity of our population. Ultimately, our community deserves an informed approach to housing that considers all spectrums of need and availability.

The proposed housing developments in Example District do not consider the essence of affordability. While affordable housing is mentioned, the reality is that with escalating house prices, many of us cannot afford even ‘affordable’ housing. This disconnect raises serious questions about how the council defines affordability and whether they are truly catering to residents in need, especially first-time buyers and those on low incomes. I implore the authorities to re-examine the definition of affordable housing and ensure it translates into housing that is genuinely accessible to local residents rather than just a tick-box exercise.

I have grave concerns regarding the way crime and anti-social behaviour issues have been approached in this proposal. Merely stating that measures will be included is insufficient, especially as certain areas in Example District have a considerable history of crime. A proactive strategy to enhance community safety must be at the forefront of planning, with clear outlines indicating how developments will integrate safety measures. Encouraging natural surveillance and involving community members in safety planning could lead to significant benefits. Without these specifics we risk perpetuating a cycle of fear among residents.

Table 4 should be completely rewritten. It currently does not take account of the national policy on meeting all housing needs and falls short of the standard set by the council's own Local Plan of 2018.

Self build and custom housing needs more detailed provision in this plan. Currently it is completely inadequate and will not meet the needs of local residents. The district's infrastructure will also not support these plans.

Table 3 also should relate directly to the number of custom build sites that will be allocated. Currently the 50 sites allocated for housing will not be served well by local infrastructure because of poor local transport links and the lack of nearby green spaces, which, are sparse at best. There needs to be a direct link between this and the main policies on these topics.
