I find it troubling that the proposal for the Call for Gypsy & Traveller Sites appears to be somewhat rushed and lacks clarity in its intentions. The initial Call for Sites did not get much attention, which raises concerns about whether adequate consideration was given to the underlying issues. It feels as though a genuine dialogue was not established, particularly with the local residents who will be directly impacted by these allocations. Moreover, prioritising only specific communities without a clear strategy for integration and inclusivity seems counterproductive. It’s vital for the planning process to consider the perspectives of all impacted stakeholders. It begs the question of whether the necessary environmental assessments have been thoroughly conducted before allocating these sites. Therefore, I firmly believe that the Council should reconsider its approach and conduct a more inclusive and transparent engagement process. This will ensure that we do not inadvertently create divisions within our community.
