The recent publication on climate action is admirable in its ambitions, yet I fear it may do little without proper enforcement mechanisms in place. While the Local Plan expresses a commitment to addressing climate change, the impact of the latest Written Ministerial Statement appears to negate some of these proposed advancements. Without a robust framework to ensure compliance and accountability, there is a real risk that developments will continue with outdated energy practices. Now would be the perfect time for the Council to stand resolutely behind a set of enforceable guidelines that maintain momentum toward a truly sustainable future, rather than embedding policies without conviction. It is critical that bold measures are implemented effectively to change our trajectory.
