While I appreciate the intention behind the Local Plan, I have serious concerns regarding its sustainability claims. The emphasis on growth seems shortsighted when considering the increase in vehicle congestion and pollution that such a large population influx would inevitably generate. We must address not only the housing itself but also its consequences on air quality and the carbon footprint of our community. Furthermore, the removal of agricultural land protections within this policy raises alarm bells. Our District has historically relied on local food production, and its erosion could threaten our long-term food security. Maintaining agricultural land is essential, especially in today’s climate crisis, as our local farms help promote sustainability. A reconsideration of the balance between development and preserving our agricultural resources is paramount.
