Having reviewed the Local Plan, I am bewildered by its failure to acknowledge the essential role of community engagement. Policies surrounding sustainable development and open spaces must not only be discussed in official documents but also embraced by the community at large. At present, the proposed plan feels disconnected from the people it is meant to serve. Without inclusive dialogue that encourages local opinions, we risk alienating residents who have invaluable insights into the unique needs of our area. Authentic community involvement is crucial to the successful implementation of any Local Plan; if this is overlooked, the future developments may lack relevance and support. We must ask for a strategy that prioritises ongoing dialogue with diverse community members.
