The refreshed IDP raises concerns related to the balance of development versus preserving local heritage. While growth is essential, it should not come at the cost of our unique historical sites and cultural identity. The plan does not adequately detail how it aims to preserve or integrate these heritage aspects within its infrastructure projects. It’s vital that we avoid repeating the mistakes of rapid development where historical significance is often overlooked. I believe that to ensure sustainable growth, there has to be a commitment to maintaining our local character, which this IDP does not convincingly address. Therefore, I urge that reassessments regarding heritage considerations be prioritised.
