In Example District, the outflow of workers to neighbouring regions has become a persistent issue, robbing our local economy of talent and potential. By prioritising the development of strategic employment sites within our borders, we can not only provide essential job opportunities for residents but also encourage the growth of local businesses. It is crucial that we develop a comprehensive economic plan that balances the needs of larger industries with support for small enterprises to ensure a robust and diverse economy. This will ultimately lead to a thriving community built on the strength of its workforce and local businesses, making Example District a chosen destination for skilled professionals.

The potential for mixed-use development in Example District is an exciting proposition that should not go overlooked. I find flaws in the strategy proposed for enhancing educational prospects and skills training for local residents. Although the district boasts an above-average employment rate in professional sectors, persistent pockets of deprivation indicate a disconnect between available jobs and the skills local residents possess. The proposed strategies seem more reactive than proactive, merely enhancing existing programmes rather than developing tailored solutions to equip residents for emerging job markets. With the anticipated growth in high-tech industries, we need a robust plan that prioritises skill acquisition and addresses educational disparities. This should be a cornerstone of our local economic development agenda, not an afterthought.

The proposed focus on addressing out-commuting by creating local jobs seems overly simplistic and doesn't take into account the complexities of human behaviour and economic choices. People often choose to work outside the district for reasons beyond mere availability of local jobs, such as better wages and career progression. While I support initiatives that aim to retain residents, simply providing more jobs is insufficient. The plan should also consider strategies for developing attractive job opportunities locally, those that appeal to highly skilled individuals and provide clear career development paths. Job retention is not just an economic issue; it's about quality of life for our residents.

The proposal claims to embrace a strategic approach to managing the impact of economic growth, yet I see inadequate prioritisation of transport and infrastructure improvements. As we push for business and employment growth, provisions for transport must keep pace to mitigate traffic congestion and other infrastructure challenges. Without thoughtful planning that addresses these issues, any economic new ventures will merely exacerbate current system stresses, negatively affecting residents' quality of life. The focus should extend beyond just policy outlines to developing real, achievable transport solutions that meet the needs of a growing community, particularly in rural areas where transport options are limited.

Table 4 should be completely rewritten. It currently does not take account of the national policy on meeting all housing needs and falls short of the standard set by the council's own Local Plan of 2018.

Self build and custom housing needs more detailed provision in this plan. Currently it is completely inadequate and will not meet the needs of local residents. The district's infrastructure will also not support these plans.

Table 3 also should relate directly to the number of custom build sites that will be allocated. Currently the 50 sites allocated for housing will not be served well by local infrastructure because of poor local transport links and the lack of nearby green spaces, which, are sparse at best. There needs to be a direct link between this and the main policies on these topics.
