I find flaws in the strategy proposed for enhancing educational prospects and skills training for local residents. Although the district boasts an above-average employment rate in professional sectors, persistent pockets of deprivation indicate a disconnect between available jobs and the skills local residents possess. The proposed strategies seem more reactive than proactive, merely enhancing existing programmes rather than developing tailored solutions to equip residents for emerging job markets. With the anticipated growth in high-tech industries, we need a robust plan that prioritises skill acquisition and addresses educational disparities. This should be a cornerstone of our local economic development agenda, not an afterthought.
